Abstract
Neolissochilus hexastichus collected from the Intanki River of the Brahmaputra basin in Nagaland’s Peren district, were studied to validate its identity through integrated taxonomy and report its occurrence in Brahmaputra basin of Nagaland. The cox I nucleotide sequences obtained were found to be 99.98% to 100.00% homology to that of Neolissochilus hexastichus at NCBI GenBank. The phylogenetic tree revealed a monophyletic group among the specimens studied and the N. hexastichus obtained from NCBI. These studied specimens have subterminal mouth with interrupted plical groove on its ventral side. A dermal ridge is present at the interruption. All the studied specimen of Neolissochilus sp. have more supraneural bones and lesser number of gill rakers compared with the Tor sp. studied.
